Name locations plainly
“Main Stockroom”, “Shop Floor” and “Shelf A” are more useful than codes nobody remembers.
One location per record
An item should have a single current location. Move the record when the item moves.
Include mobile storage
If stock lives in a van or at an event site, record that too.
Keep the list current
Remove locations you no longer use so the list stays short and trustworthy.
A note on expectations
Inventory software can organise information, but it cannot guarantee stock accuracy, sales or revenue. Clear records simply make what you hold easier to follow.
